Note! We have updated the Console with automated snapshot policies, read here for more details and screenshots
Today we released the first public Beta version (beta-2.0) of our Cloud VPS Self-Management Console.
The purpose of the Cloud VPS Self-Management console is to give our Cloud VPS customers the flexibility of managing their servers via an easy to use web interface. While we are continuing to improve the Self-Management Console and adding new features monthly (see below), we introduce it to our customers today.
What the VPS Management Console does
In its first publicly available beta-release, the Self-Management Console gives our customers an extended overview of all Cloud VPS servers they have with us, allowing easy navigation between servers. The server overview page provides detailed information about the Cloud VPS server, such as:
- hardware configuration,
- networks and network interfaces,
- IP addresses and MAC addresses for every network interface attached.
Moreover, the consoles allow customers to the following actions with Cloud VPS:
- Start
- Stop
- Restart
- Force restart
- Force shutdown
Integrated Snapshot Management
The most noticeable free (we never charge you for the snapshots storage space) feature of the Self-Management Console is the ability to manage server snapshots. Within the allowed number of snapshots per server, our customers now able to:
- Create new snapshot
- Revert the Cloud VPS to the snapshot selected
- Delete existing snapshots
Built for speed, the snapshot (managed via XenServer Xen API) takes seconds to create, delete or restore. It is an ultimate backup feature of most virtualization platforms, implemented very efficiently in XenServer. From XenServer web page: "Snapshots are a very important feature of XenServer, as they provide a “point in time” disk state that is useful for virtual machine backup as well as in test & development environments."
At RedyHost it costs nothing to snapshot your server. Create backups of your Cloud VPS any time you run a deployment or change server configuration.
A VPS snapshot is a point-in-time checkpoint of a VPS. The snapshot provides a mechanism to revert the VM to the exact state that it was in, when the snapshot was created. Snapshots are used in a variety of scenarios, but they are most commonly used as a rollback option, when performing software or system upgrades.
Work In Progress: next features
While the first public Beta version of the Management Console is now available to our customers, we continue to work on improving it every day. Few noticeable upcoming features:
Snapshot automation policies
In addition to the manual snapshots, our customers will be able to schedule automated snapshots creation on time base (hourly, daily or weekly snapshots), manage snapshot retention and rotation.
Java-based web console
Java console will allow connecting to our Cloud VPS when the network connection to the server is lost, or you need to capture console output in a case of an error.
Power events history
Whenever your server is started, stopped or rebooted, we will record such event and make it available in the server events history.
Performance stats
Display the CPU load, HDD usage and speed, RAM utilisation, Network utilisation stats.
Dedicated theme
For now, the Management Console incorporates RedyHost website look and feel, but we want to give it a more Console-oriented look and fee.
We welcome any feedback from our customers and will work on improving the Management Console.
